The Canadian Rockies is one of the world’s most famous mountains. Combined, they are Canada’s biggest national park and environmentally protected areas. The Rockies starts along the Alberta/British Columbia border, framed to the east by never-ending prairies plains and to the west by the rich and deep valley of the Rocky Mountain Trench. Peaks, valleys and icevilles of the Rockies have captured the eyes and minds of millions of people around the world. Their spectacular views and breathtaking surroundings are homes to many wild creatures and living plants. The United Nation has declared in 1984, that the 20,160 square km park is a World Heritage Site. Banff, Jasper and Waterton Lakes on the east slope of the Rockies in Alberta and Kootenay and Yoho on the western slopes in British Columbia are the Rocky Mountains’ true gems. The highest peak belongs to Mt. Assiniboine with an altitude of 11,870 feet above sea level. The enchanting, dream-like panoramic scenes of the Rockies are never-endingly captivating.
